What is the difference between Volvo On Call and Volvo Roadside Assistance?

Volvo On Call is a subscription based service featuring the Volvo On Call mobile app that keeps you connected with your Volvo car. The purchase or lease of a brand new model year 2018 or newer Volvo includes Volvo On Call complimentary for the first four years from the initial date of activation. 

Volvo On Call subscription includes: 

  • Volvo On Call mobile app - lock/unlock doors, remote start/stop engine, car warnings, driving journal, vehicle information, honk and flash, send to car, and roadside assistance
  • Safety services - direct access to accident or breakdown services from Volvo Roadside  
  • Security services - remote door unlock by Volvo On Call, theft alarm notification, stolen vehicle tracking and in some areas vehicle immobilization


All 2015.5 and newer Volvos that are equipped with the Sensus Connect system have the integrated Volvo On Call system. By pressing the integrated On Call button from inside your Volvo, you will reach a Volvo Roadside operator who will guide a recovery service to your current location.  This system also includes an SOS emergency button.


Volvo Roadside Assistance is a complimentary service when you purchase your new or Certified by Volvo, and lasts for the entire timeframe of the warranty regardless of mileage.  If your Volvo is not under a Volvo Warranty you can purchase Volvo Roadside Plus or by calling 1-800-638-6586.


Volvo Roadside Assistance includes:

  • 24-hour roadside assistance
  • Towing to your nearest Volvo dealer (or dealer of choice within a 25 mile radius)
  • Lockout assistance 
  • Trip interruption expense benefits (if you break down 150 miles or more from your home)
  • Jump-starting, winching (to remove your Volvo from mud, sand, snow or ditch), changing a flat (if a spare tire is available) or emergency gasoline delivery (up to 2 gallons)
  • Volvo dealer locator 


Note: If you choose not to renew your Volvo On Call subscription, you will still have the in-car access to the SOS and On Call buttons to initiate Roadside Assistance.  You will lose the features listed above under the Volvo On Call subscription.

What does Volvo Roadside Assistance include?

Your initial Volvo Roadside Assistance membership begins as a complimentary service when you purchase your new or Certified by Volvo vehicle and lasts for the entire timeframe of the warranty regardless of mileage. You can contact Volvo Roadside by calling 1-800-638-6586.

Volvo Roadside Assistance is meant to provide service in emergency situations. An emergency situation does not include:

  • Repeated service calls for a car in need of routine maintenance
  • Removing snow from on or around a vehicle
  • Installation or removal of chains or snow tires
  • Vehicle storage charges, costs of parts and installation, products, materials, impounding and additional labor related to towing
     

Volvo Roadside Assistance is also complimentary with all VIP extended contracts. Trip interruption benefits with a VIP extended contracts begin within a 100 mile radius of your home. 

Volvo now offers Tow for Life for complimentary towing beyond the terms of your Volvo Warranty! 


*Note: You may choose a dealer beyond this limit but will be charged for the overage charges if there are Volvo dealers closer.

What is trip interruption with Volvo Roadside Assistance?

Trip interruption expense benefits are available in the event of a mechanical disablement occurring more than 150 miles from your primary residence. Expenses for food, lodging and alternate transportation such as a rental vehicle and/or commercial transportation (i.e. taxi, bus, train, or airfare) are covered. The amount for a vehicle reunite, if necessary, is deducted from the total trip interruption limit.


Reimbursement consideration is for expenses incurred during the disablement. Our Volvo Roadside Assistance team must be supplied with original receipts and repair order from the servicing Volvo dealer to qualify for reimbursement.  Trip interruption reimbursement is limited to a total of $500.00 and it is required that you contact Volvo Roadside Assistance to obtain pre-authorization of claim’s expense. All trip interruption claims must be submitted with the following:

  • For a mechanical disablement, the original itemized repair order from the dealer that repaired the vehicle. (Tire failure is not applicable)
  • Itemized receipts for food, car rental and hotel
  • If you have activated your trip interruption benefits and must return home before repairs are completed on your disabled Volvo, Volvo Roadside Assistance will, in conjunction with trip interruption benefits, arrange to have the vehicle transported to your choice of location


 The following items are not eligible for reimbursement under trip interruption:

  • Fuel
  • Tolls
